Porsche 959 Rescue Restoration Project
This 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort, also known as the ‘Mecum 959’, was in an unfortunate transportation accident back in 2018 where much of the front structure was all but destroyed.
We took this project, knowing there were little or no replacement parts available for the 959 cars.
Some of the parts that we had to re-create were the aluminum hood, inner front structure, radiator, AC condenser, and many other such items.
The kevlar components of the body were saved, though they required significant attention.
Since the Porsche 959 cars do not have a traditional pinch welded floor pan, we had to make an 'exoskeleton' for the car, an external rigid frame that attaches to the strong points of the 959 body; engine mounts, transmission mounts, rear suspension mounts etc. This external frame then was clamped onto the frame machine, permitting the safe pulling of the 959 body back to the original dimensions. Repairing the 959 requires much creativity, they are not like other cars.
Stay tuned as we post more throughout the restoration project!
